Depression touches many of our lives and when it strikes it can have devastating consequences.
When depression takes hold of me I feel exhausted and defeated. I feel a heavy cloud of despair bearing down on me. I cannot “see the point” to anything. I lack motivation and give up. I cry… a lot! I feel a failure. I feel alone. I want to curl up in a ball and hibernate for a few months and I sometimes feel suicidal.
But I know the depression will lift if I look after myself and give myself time to heal. I’ve learnt over the years that beating myself up about how I’m feeling doesn’t accomplish anything. Try not to put too much pressure on yourself and do things that make you smile. It’s ok to put yourself first. Allow yourself time and be kind.
