CBD is growing in popularity due to its many health and wellness benefits. But for those on a tight budget, CBD oil may seem out of reach.

If you are in this position, there are ways to reduce the cost of buying CBD, so you can enjoy the many benefits too.

What is CBD?

First up let’s briefly explain what CBD is.

Short for cannabidiol, CBD is one of more than 100 compounds called cannabinoids contained in cannabis. Similar in structure to endocannabinoids, which the body naturally produces, cannabinoids offer many potential therapeutic benefits. CBD is non psychoactive so therefore will not get you high. It’s legal and safe, and has been growing in popularity over the past few years.

Tips on how to reduce the cost of buying CBD

Buying CBD can be expensive but there are ways to reduce the cost.

Here are some tips on how to get the best deals when shopping for CBD, but I’ve also included a list of potential pitfalls to avoid.

Dos

1. Do your research before you purchase any CBD products

I have witnessed so many people jump straight in and buy the first CBD product they find. This is a surefire way of wasting money. Please make sure you spend some time researching CBD and the different products available. Not all CBD products are equal.

Spending time researching your options in relation to your specific health situation, means you are more likely to find an effective CBD product for your needs. I have written a post about tailoring a CBD product to your specific needs called; The main cannabinoids found in cannabis and their therapeutic properties, if you would like to find out more.

2. Research the company you are looking to purchase from

Sadly, not all companies are what they seem. The CBD market is growing rapidly, which means it’s a lucrative opportunity for scammers. Please carry out some simple checks before purchasing; ask for lab reports, ask about the company in unbiased CBD support groups, check to see if they are Cannabis Trade Association UK (CTA) members, and don’t be afraid to ask questions.

I have published a Recommended Sellers list with discount codes on my CBD Resource Centre page. I carry out checks on all companies before including them.

Doing research before purchasing can save you a lot of money in the long run. And it can save you being ripped off by scammers. If you are still unsure, please feel free to ask me, I will be happy to carry out checks on the company for you.

3. Join an unbiased CBD support group

There are many CBD support groups on Facebook which offer invaluable information and support. Please make sure they are unbiased and not linked to a CBD company. These groups can help educate you about what to look for when buying CBD products, but their members can also offer personal recommendations. The group CBD Users UK is a good place to start. Or you could follow my Facebook page; CBD Resource Centre.

4. Enter CBD competitions on social media

Many CBD companies run free competitions on social media, as a way of raising awareness about their brand. Why not enter a few? What have you got to lose? I have won a few CBD prizes over the past 2 years. If you do win, why not take a photo and post about it on social media – it creates a relationship between you and the CBD company. Along with competitions, some companies also offer selected opportunities to try samples of their products.

I have regular free CBD competition running on my Facebook page CBD Resource Centre

5. Make the most of promotions and discount codes

The CBD industry is no different than any other industry. CBD companies offer regular incentives in the form of promotions. Why not stock up during these times. Holidays like Christmas, Easter and sale events like black Friday and boxing day, are ideal times to buy. I have a recommended sellers list with discount codes of up to 30% off on my CBD Resource Centre page.

6. Follow CBD companies on social media or sign up to their newsletter

This is the best way to be kept informed about promotions, discount codes and competitions. Companies will often offer discounts exclusively for newsletter subscribers. If you don’t want to follow lots of companies, why not follow my page CBD Resource Centre. I compile a weekly roundup of all the CBD offers I find, so all the offers are in one place

7. Why not ask for a discount?

I know it’s not the British thing to do, but before purchasing a CBD product, why not ask the company if they have any current discount codes or incentives for new customers? You really haven’t got anything to lose. Social media is normally the best channel for this type of communication.

8. Make the most of loyalty schemes

Many CBD companies offer loyalty schemes and affiliate programmes. If you are planning to buy your CBD from that company anyway, why not sign up to the scheme? You get points towards your next purchase, and money for referring friends. The points can add up and lead to a big reduction in the cost of your purchase. Not all schemes are equal, so do your research.

9. Buy CBD oil or paste (whole plant extract)

The most cost effective way of taking CBD is either CBD oil or paste. So, rather than buying other CBD products like capsules or edibles, stick to these methods. If you struggle with the taste of CBD oil why not make your own capsules or edibles?

10. Shop around

Just as with all products, you will find identical CBD products sold by different companies. The prices will vary, so shop around.

11. Product testing

Some companies advertise for product testers when developing new CBD products. You will need to fit certain criteria and give honest and detailed feedback on your experiences with their product. But you get a “free” CBD product for your effort.

Don’ts

1. Please don’t be tempted to buy the cheapest product you find

It’s very likely that the product isn’t what it seems. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Research the company and product before purchasing. Ask for lab reports and see if you can get a personal recommendation. Ask about the company and product in CBD support groups, but please make sure the group is unbiased and not one that is linked to the company.

2. Please don’t purchase CBD from an Amazon or eBay seller

When buying from these sites, you have no way of verifying the seller or knowing what is in the product. The cheap prices may seem appealing, but there’s a reason why they are cheap. Take it from someone who knows – I was scammed by an Amazon seller when I first started taking CBD. The Cannabis Trade Association UK tested four CBD products at random, from eBay sellers. Three contained no CBD whatsoever (they were just bog standard hemp seed oil which can be purchased from your local supermarket), and the fourth only contained a fraction of the advertised potency.

3. Don’t assume you need to buy a high strength CBD product

If you are new to CBD, don’t assume you need to start with a high strength product even if you symptoms are severe. This is not the case with the majority of CBD users. CBD does not work like traditional painkillers or other medicines. The stronger the CBD product is, the more expensive it will be. Start low and slowly increase, and save yourself some money. If you would like know more about how CBD works within the body please read my article; How CBD works: The Endocannabinoid System Explained.

4. Avoid “free trials”

Please be wary of CBD companies offering “free trials”, these are normally subscription sign ups, so read the small print. If they ask for payment details, then my advice is to avoid them.

5. Please don’t buy a CBD product based solely on price.

There are many things to consider when buying CBD products, including the cannabinoid and terpene profile, and the method of consumption. Each cannabinoid and terpene has its own therapeutic properties so choosing a product based on its profile, rather than cost, could save you money in the long run.

The specific profile will give you a good indication of whether the CBD product will be effective for your ailments. If you would like to know more about the main cannabinoids found in cannabis and their specific therapeutic properties please read my article; The main cannabinoids and their therapeutic properties.

Please ask if you have any questions

I know buying CBD can be expensive, and many of us are on benefits or a tight budget. But CBD really does offer a myriad of benefits which can improve health and tackle a whole host of symptoms. It is possible to enjoy the benefits of CBD without incurring huge costs.

I hope the above points make buying CBD more affordable, and most importantly, help you avoid the pitfalls which I fell into when I first starting taking CBD.
